Paiute Indian Tribe of Utah
Shade Arbor for Cultural Gatherings and Celebrations
The Paiute Indian Tribe of Utah suffered greatly from the federal termination policy of the 1950s, losing much of its land base and resources for material and cultural sustainability. Cultural gatherings and celebrations are central to the preservation of the Paiute traditional lifeways. The Tribe lost the shade arbor over its sacred Pow Wow cultural area in a violent windstorm, and has used the CRF grant to construct a shade and seating area that enables Tribal Elders and children to participate in gatherings and celebrations that honor traditional Paiute knowledge and practices.
